Module 1 - Lesson 1
Finding & Using Design Inspiration
Lesson Overview
Getting inspired by a great design is a crucial part of improving your web design skills. It is very important to collect and catalog good design inspirations for two reasons: one – so that you can analyze it to get better, and two – so that you can refer to it whenever you have a specific design problem. This video is divided into two parts. First, I’m going to tell you where you can find great design inspiration and then, I’m going to tell you what you can do once you find it.

Action Items
Set up an account on two of the websites mentioned in the video (if you don’t have one yet). Spend 15 minutes looking through examples and add/pin/save to collection something for inspiration.Install the WhatFont browser extension and inspect fonts on a couple of different websites.Create a folder on your desktop (or somewhere easily accessible) for capturing screenshots of sites you like. Add screenshots from 3 sites to get things started.Find 3-5 sites with great interface design. Write out what you believe makes each of these great, along with some screenshots of each.Share your finished analysis with the community (in the comments below). Don’t be afraid to “take over” the chat with your posts – it’s there for everyone to post homework, and get feedback! You can also post anything inside our Student Lounge to discuss with others. There are more than enough overly-negative designer communities online; ours is not one of them!
